Kathy brings over two decades of experience in radiation safety and industrial consulting. With a strong background in compliance, training, and radioactive materials management, she is committed to delivering practical, client-focused solutions. Her leadership ensures the highest standards of service, safety, and technical expertise across every project.
Operations Manager
Phil Allanson
Phil brings over 20 years of experience across radiation safety, business development, and operational leadership. With a strong background in managing high-stakes radiation services and quality systems, he focuses on delivering safe, compliant, and client-centred solutions. Phil is also actively engaged in industry and community initiatives, championing training, outreach, and continuous improvement.
Technical Officer
Rizwana Uzma
Uzma is responsible for the calibration of instruments and systems. With a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, she brings an analytical mindset and attention to detail to every task. Her background in mathematics plays a vital role in the precision, consistency and compliance of our measurement processes. Uzma’s commitment to quality and accuracy supports the high standards we maintain across all our operations.
Scientific Officer
Rohitha Baskar
Rohitha brings a diverse background in radiation safety, environmental monitoring, and laboratory operations. With experience across Australia and internationally, she supports our team through equipment calibration, compliance assessments, and radiological analysis. A recipient of the IAEA’s Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship, Rohitha is passionate about safe practices, continuous learning, and contributing to the global radiation safety community.

Teresa Tobin
Teresa manages the day-to-day administration of our financial operations, ensuring the smooth running of the business. She plays a vital role in maintaining accurate records, supporting compliance, and keeping our internal processes organised. Her reliability and attention to detail make her an essential part of the team. With a calm and methodical approach, Teresa helps create a foundation that supports every aspect of our work.
Our Journey
Founded in 2006, Safe Radiation began with a vision to provide exceptional calibration and service for radiation measurement equipment. Over the years, the Safe Radiation logo evolved several times, each iteration reflecting the shared determination of Sadia and Riaz, whose initials “S” and “R” became a symbol of teamwork and technical resolve.
In the early days, the founders worked tirelessly: long nights filled with writing reports, crafting graphs and tables, designing methodologies, developing custom equipment, and preparing templates for routine laboratory services. Countless cups of tea and coffee fueled those efforts and laid the groundwork for everything Safe Radiation would become.
After many years of hands‑on leadership and refinement of technical and operational standards, Sadia and Riaz felt deep pride in passing the business into highly capable hands. As of May 28, 2025, McKavanagh Engineering completed the acquisition of the Brisbane‑based calibration laboratory, cementing a legacy of excellence that began under the founders’ guidance
